Historical interactions, such as maritime trade routes and migration patterns, have linked Taiwan with countries in the South Pacific. Like Taiwan, most countries in the South Pacific are democracies. However, the biggest reason that Taiwan is the most similar country in East Asia to the South Pacific region is its geography.

Taiwan, like many countries in the South Pacific, experiences a tropical climate. The presence of tropical climates in both regions affects vegetation, agriculture, and the types of flora and fauna that thrive in these areas. Furthermore, the country’s centroid is the furthest south of any East Asian country. All countries in the South Pacific are located on islands, just like Taiwan. Due to their geographical locations, both Taiwan and many South Pacific countries are prone to natural disasters such as typhoons.
