Analysis
It is no surprise that the states with the most laws against discrimination tend to have more Democrats in their governments, while in general the states with the most least favorable laws tend to have more Republicans in their governments. States in the Southern region tend to have the fewest laws prohibiting discrimination, although Idaho and South Dakota are two exceptions. Washington and California are two extremely liberal states that have banned racial preferences in college admissions.
