Men’s curling was part of the inaugural Winter Olympics in 1924, but it was not until the 1998 Games in Nagano that the sport permanently returned to the official Olympic program. Including the 1924 tournament in Chamonix, France, men’s curling has appeared at nine Winter Olympics. A small, elite group of nations has established remarkable consistency.
Great Britain

Curling was invented in Scotland, so it is no surprise that Great Britain has a particularly long history in Olympic curling. The country won the gold medal at the 1924 Winter Olympics, when curling was first contested at the Games. It then returned to the medal podium in 2014, 2022 and again in 2026, winning the silver medal in all three tournaments.
Sweden

Sweden has appeared in every Olympic men’s curling tournament, including the first one where they won the silver medal. The Swedish team finally won its first Olympic gold medal in 2022, defeating Great Britain in the final. Sweden previously won silver in 2018 and bronze in 2014. The country has consistently been one of the leading European curling nations.
Canada

Canada has also competed in every Olympic men’s curling tournament since the sport returned as an official medal event in 1998. The Canadians won gold in 2006, 2010, and 2014, becoming the first nation to win three consecutive Olympic men’s curling titles. Canada also won silver in 1998 and 2002, bronze in 2022, and gold again at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Switzerland

Switzerland has competed at every Olympic men’s curling tournament since the sport’s return in 1998. The Swiss won the first modern Olympic tournament in 1998, by defeating Canada in the final. They also won bronze medals in 2002, 2010, 2018, and 2026. Switzerland’s record of five Olympic medals makes it one of the most successful nations in the history of the event.
Norway

Like its Scandinavian counterpart, Sweden, Norway has also been a consistent presence in Olympic tournament since 2002. The Norwegian team won gold at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games, defeating Canada in the final. Norway’s men also earned silver medals in 2010 and bronze in 1998, giving it three Olympic medals overall.
United States

The United States has competed in all eight Olympic men’s curling tournaments in the modern era. Its greatest achievement came at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, where John Shuster’s team defeated Sweden 10–7 in the gold-medal game. This was the first Olympic curling gold medal for the United States. The Americans also won bronze in 2006.
